The Truce at Christmas

In World War 1, (WW1) more than 44,000 died. Of these 2,701 were New Zealanders. World War 1 was a fight between Germany and the Allies. On Germany's Side were the countries Austria, Hungry, Turkey plus the Middle East and Bulgaria. The Allies included Britain, France, Russia, Italy, New Zealand, Australia and the United States of America.

World War 1 started 1 August 1914 and ended 11 November 1918  however on Christmas Day 1914 both sides agreed to stop fighting.  It was the Truce at Christmas.  Pope
Benedict XV (15th) had first suggested a ‘Truce of God’ in early December.

So on Christmas Eve, when Germany traditionally celebrated Christmas, there were candles and trees seen up along parts of the German line.  On Christmas Day along some parts of the Western Front, the soldiers came out of the trenches from both sides exchanged gifts, took photos and played a game of football.  It was also a chance for them to look  after their dead and wounded in No-Man’s land between the two sides.

Why Dogs are better than Cats

Dogs are better pets than cats! Does a cat ever run out to meet you when you get home from work? No I didn’t think so. Most cats’ meow and come to see you only when they want food. This is not a loving pet’s response.

Dogs are always more responsive to humans than cats. When you get home from work your dog will be happy to see you and will show you this by running up and licking you or jumping up to you. A dog also knows when you are sad, they often come up and try to comfort you. If you are crying, they will put their paw on you as if to say ‘it will be ok’.   Cats don’t care.

Cats don't show more affection than dogs. Cats will turn their back on you when you call them for a cuddle.  They decide whether or not they will come. With a dog though you can call them and they will come running for attention and love without thinking twice.

I think dogs are way better than cats because when a dog comes running to greet you after a long day at school, you know you are loved. A cat would most likely turn their back on you and decide to clean themselves and basically ignore you.

Dogs will wake you up if the house is on fire. Cats will quietly sneak out the back door.Dogs will turn their heads and try to understand every word you are saying. Cats will ignore you and have a nap instead. I can see love in my dog's eyes while my cat lies on the stairs waiting to bite my ankles as I walk past. So that is why I believe dogs are better than cats.

What is better a Cat or a Dog

WHAT IS BETTER A CAT OR A DOG

Here are some reasons why dogs are better than cats:

  1. Dogs will tilt their heads and try to understand every word you say. Cats will ignore you and take a nap.
  2. When you come home from work, your dog will be happy and lick your face. Cats will still be mad at you for leaving in the first place.
  3. A dog knows when you're sad. And he/she will try to comfort you. Cats don't care how you feel, as long as you remember where the can opener is.
  4. Dogs will bring you your slippers. Cats will drop a dead mouse in your slippers.
  5. When you take them for a ride, dogs will sit on the seat next to you. Cats have to have their own private basket, or they won't go at all.
  6. Dogs will come when you call them. And they'll be happy. Cats will have someone take a message and get back to you.
  7. Dogs will wake you up if the house is on fire. Cats will quietly sneak out the back door

Here are some reasons why cats are better than dogs:

1. Cat people are more intelligent than dog people.

2. Cats are less slobbery than dogs.

3.Cats are cheaper than dogs.

4. You do not have to pick up poop.

What are the bad things of a cat and a dog:

DOG:
  1. You have to pick up poop.
  2. They bark.
  3. They jump all over you when you are wearing good clothes
  4. They chew everything.

CAT:
  1. They only come and have a cuddly when they are hungry.
  2. They claw your furniture.
  3. They get in the way when you are trying to sleep.
  4. Tees the dogs or other animals.
  5. They rip up your homework.

Which one is better?

I did not know this so I did a tally in my class for which one is better CAT or DOG. when i went around the class 20 people picked dog and only 1 person picked cat. So that means in my class dog are better than cats.

THIS IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT

Image result for money

Money My Speech

Money

1
Money, money, money must be funny in a rich man’s world. Time for a paycheck, but wait I don’t get a paycheck I am just a kid. Some people in this world are getting paid millions, ohh correction billions. I cannot even begin to imagine. Money has been said that is the root of all evil but another quote might be money makes the world go round. No matter which won you might know there is no doubt that money plays a big part in our lives.

2
And what about the power of money. Coins are made of metals and copper but to be honest it looks like monopoly money but boy does it pack a punch. You can go into a store and hand over a few pieces of paper or a plastic card where your money is stored and you could walk out with the latest IPhone 7. WOW! You can hand over some metal or copper and get a delicious ice-cream. People have huge arguments over money it is so powerful.

3
In addition to this, if you play sport and are really good at it you can make millions of dollars. Sports players get paid Lebron James a basketball player from the Cavaliers Basketball team gets paid a million dollars a game. How amazing is that - he is doing something he loves and getting wow money.

4
Money is almost unreal. The richest man in the world has changed. It used to be Bill Gates but now it is Jeff Bezos who is worth 90.9 billion dollars. Can you imagine how many zeros that is? He is the creator of Amazon.  When we wrote this amount down in it is full form we could not believe how it looked.

5
Here is a thought for you. Imagine if we got paid to come to school. Kids would be happier and would be willing to do more work. Homework would be done and everything would be done to a high standard. Can you imagine how excited we would be to come?

6
In conclusion, whatever we think about money the question I have for you is do we really need lots of money or do we just want it? Does it make us happier? In my opinion, I love the fact that I have some money. It makes me feel lucky because I know I have a soft bed to sleep in, food in my belly and this all comes from money, money, money, must be funny in a rich man’s world.

THE END

These are some people that came to our class and told us about their change in their lives

Lahoot & Suhaili

When they walked in class with Mr Cole it look like they could not talk English but lucky they could. There names are Lahoot and Suhaili. They said they that they have two sisters a Mum and a Dad. One of there sister is 3 years old and the other one is 13 years old. They come in August last year. They both speak four languages. They were really gentle and calm. Where they go to New Zealand they all thought they were still in Afghanistan but it was in 2016 but now that only happens to their Mum. she wakes up at night and thinks she is in the battlefield and starts freaking out.

THIS IS MY WRITING ABOUT
AUNT SPONGE:

Aunt Sponge
From the book: James and the Giant Peach By: Roald Dahl

Aunt Sponge was very fat, short, chubby and very mean. She had small creepy eyes that sat within her flabby face and that massive pimple on her ugly face made her look even worse than before. As well as that ugly pimple she  wore a flowery bikini top and skirt that showed her flabby tummy. She wore a big round hat that was yellow around the brim with some lines to connect it there was some white netting and some flowers and bows on top.

My diary on Year 7 Camp

Monday:

On Monday all six of the year seven classes went on the bus to Papamoa Camping ground. When we got there we couldn’t go into our cabins straight away because they were still getting cleaned so we put our bags in the dining room until we got back. We left the campsite to go to the Mount. The Mount is called “Mount Maunganui”. After all the  year seven classes got there, we walked up the Mount to the top. It was raining and foggy when we were walking up but when we got to the top there was a wonderful view. We had afternoon tea at the top of the Mountain.  We had biscuits or slice it was very yummy. We walked back down to the bottom of the Mount. Then we went to the Mount Maunganui pools the water was very salty and stung your eyes but it was fun anyway. After that we were meant to walk to the beach but we were all being naughty so we went back to the accommodation to unpack, have dinner and found  who was in your cabin. In my cabin I had Toir Clarke, Liv Davys, Sienna van Straalen and me,  Kelly-Brooke Christie. For dinner we had lasagne, Pasta bake and macaroni cheese with salad from the Southwell kitchen and for dessert it was Cheese cake and fruit. The dinner and the desert was very nice. After dinner and after our meetings that we have every night it was shower brush our teeth then bed.

Tuesday:

I was really looking forward to the activity planned for Tuesday after I  had eaten corn flakes and scramble eggs and bacon for breakfast, we packed our day bags and got on the bus. At Waimarino water park we had team building games like having to do a puzzle with a blindfold on.  After that we had lunch,  after lunch we could go on anything we liked. I wore my wetsuit because it was very cold. My favorite things were the slide, diving board and the U.F.O.  The U.F.O is a trampoline in the water that you can jump on and there are things off the side of it like a mini blob. At the end of the day we got back on the bus. We were all very tired and some people fell asleep!! We got ready for dinner which was beef stroganoff and savoury rice finished with sour cream. For dessert we had some pancakes. After dinner we had free time till the meeting, where we got told what to pack ready for Wednesday.

Wednesday:

This day was really challenging day for me. I had never done S.U.P. Boarding or Waka-ama before and was a bit worried about my sore shoulder if it would work with the paddling. We all had a S.U.P. Boarding lesson on shore. We were taught how to stand and paddle and what to do if we fell off. There were three Waka-ama and we got in the boats
and had to work as a team to paddle. It was cool fun. We then got ready for the Mauno Hikoi where we walked around the Mount and a guide told us about the history of the area. We were lucky because it was a lovely sunny, as we walked walked together. Our leader had grown up around the Mount On the way back to camp we stopped at The Elms Mission House in Tauranga. This was a historic house in the oldest European heritage site in the Bay of plenty. In the old day the Maori Christianity, learnt agricultural and domestic skills. It was established in 1838 by Archdeacon Alfred Brown. At camp we had Crispy cheese topped with fish pie and vegetables. For dessert we had apple crumble and Ice Cream.

Thursday:

This was the best day. After my usual breakfast we got on the bus and and headed for the Adrenalin forest park. It was so cool. It was made up of high-wires and wood. I was only allowed to go up to level 2 because I was under 1.30 cm tall. I wasn’t scared and we were harnessed up with safety gear so if we fell we wouldn't hit the ground. I am going back there when I grow taller. I loved it so much. The next activity was the rock hop. It was on Poripori Road. We got our beach shoes on so we didn’t cut our feet and we had a real adventure in the water and on the big rocks with moss growing on them. We had to jump off some big rocks into the river. Then the bus picked us up at the end of the rock walk and took us back to camp for dinner. For dinner we had nachos and for dessert we had chocolate mud cake and chocolate sauce we also had ice cream,  it was the best. After dinner we had showers before bed.

Friday:

I had my usual breakfast and then we had to pack up our gear and our cabin. We put our suitcases and sleeping gear on the bus. Then we all went to the Memorial pools in Tauranga where we had a swim to cool off before the bus trip home. Back at school we all said bye to each other. Camp week has been a great experience.
